The Walks

Brisbane is a great city to get to know on foot.  With an inner city area that has maintained its charming historic buildings, kilometres of river side and bay side tracks, urban villages, lush parklands and gardens,  plus unique wildlife habitats and bushland areas close to the CBD, there’s always a new area to explore.

Here are 33 walks that are detailed (along with maps) in the book. 

INNER CITY

  – Brisbane’s architecture dates from the convict-built Commissariat Store completed in 1829
• Story Bridge to New Farm
  – walk over the Story Bridge from Kangaroo Point, turn right and follow the river

  – a favourite picnic spot with river views

NORTH

SOUTH

EAST

  – good path for strollers with picnic shelters at the end
• Hawthorne and Bulimba
  – after your walk, enjoy a snack or catch a film on Oxford Street
• Gateway Bridge and River Views
  – see the new bridge being built and watch ships pass under
• Seven Hills Reserve
  – you’ll feel like you’re out in the bush
• Whites Hill Reserve
  – an easy bushwalk with a playground and picnic area at the end
• Norman Park to Stone Corner
  – follow Norman Creek and check out the flying foxes
• Minnippi Parklands
  – great for little kids on bikes and they’ll love the water birds

WEST

  – check the progress on the two new bridges across the Brisbane River
• Mt Coot-tha and Simpson Falls
  – wilderness right on Brisbane’s doorstep

  – the Walk-About Creek Wildlife Centre at Park Headquarters is great for kids
• Seventeen Mile Rocks
  – walk along the river and visit the suburb’s huge park

  – great city views and plenty of cafes

BAYSIDE

  – start with Pelican feeding then enjoy the coastal views
