South Bank Lagoon

South Bank Beach

There are so many walking areas in Brisbane that are great for children.  Every walk listed on “The Walks” page is suitable for children, although many follow the river, creeks or bay and close supervision is always necessary.

If you’re walking in the inner city, you might like to include a visit to these attractions:

  • The Queensland Museum has plenty to amuse children.
  • The Sciencentre is part of the Museum and has lots of activities that children will love.
  • The State Library of Queensland has a free area for young children called The Corner.
  • Both the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art have regular programs aimed at children and young adults.
  • South Bank has an inner city beach and water play area along with play grounds
  • The public library in Brisbane Square, at the high end of the Queen Street Mall has an indoor play area for small children.
  • The Queen Street Mall has regular free shows
  • The Museum of Brisbane in Brisbane City Hall has a children’s ‘Discovery Room’.  You can take a free trip up to the building’s clock tower for great views (pretty noisy when it chimes!)
  • Roma Street Parklands and the City Botanic Gardens both have play grounds, picnic areas and plenty of interesting areas for children to explore.
